The university has an enterprise agreement with Microsoft which allows the full Office ProPlus suite to be installed on university-owned machines across campus. Contact PPE IT support
if you would like Microsoft Office installed on your desktop or laptop. Information about the university's Microsoft Office provision can be found on the IT Services
When Microsoft Office is installed in this manner on Windows machines, it must be able to contact the university's licence server regularly otherwise it will lose its activation status. If you travel frequently and are away from campus for extended periods of time, you should be able to maintain the activation status by connecting to the campus network using the university's VPN service. Your copy of Microsoft Office can be reactivated by PPE IT support
should you receive notification that its activation has lapsed. This should not affect Office installations on Mac OS X machines, which for some peculiar reason are not required to contact the licence server.
The university's Office 365 for Education subscription permits current staff (i.e. those with a GUID) and registered students the right to install the latest version of the Microsoft Office ProPlus suite on up to five personal desktop or laptop computers (running Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X) and up to five mobile devices (such as Android, iOS or Windows phones or tablets). You will be able to use the software for as long as you remain a member of staff or student at the university.
