Office for Microsoft Windows will require to be activated after it is installed; please contact PPE IT support to have your copy of Office activated. If you travel frequently and are away from campus for extended periods of time, you should be able to maintain the activation status by connecting to the campus network using the university's VPN service. Your copy of Microsoft Office can be reactivated by PPE IT support should you receive notification that its activation has lapsed.

The OS X / macOS version of Office should not require activation.

When Microsoft Office is installed in this manner on Windows machines, it must be able to contact the university's licence server regularly otherwise it will lose its activation status. If you travel frequently and are away from campus for extended periods of time, you should be able to maintain the activation status by connecting to the campus network using the university's VPN service. Your copy of Microsoft Office can be reactivated by PPE IT support should you receive notification that its activation has lapsed. This should not affect Office installations on Mac OS X machines, which for some peculiar reason are not required to contact the licence server.
