UK Pixel Upgrade Module Meeting 19 Jan. 2012 --------------------------------------------- Present: Andy Blue, Simon Brown, Gianluigi Casse, Paul Dervan, Stephan Eisenhardt, Jo Pater Apologies: Richard Bates Reports: Manchester (Jo): --------------------- - Ready to make next module as soon as we have working FEI4s; from communication with Richard after the meeting, we won't have any of our own ready as our FE-I4 wafer isn't bumped yet, however Bonn had agreed to provide us with a few, Richard will follow this. - We have a new electronics engineer (Simon Brown) who is working with us on contract on the FEI4 multiplexor. - Two copies of the prototype single-module readout/support board (single-chip output routing to USBPix) have been ordered. Glasgow (Andy) -------------- - Glasgow has a new research fellow (also called Andrew) who has been hired to replace Aaron on e.g. tracking recognition, analysis and module testing. - Kate has been testing the Micron device from Gian, also an FPGA device. - Glasgow is working with version 2 of the FEI4 USBpix, it is much faster than before. (A talk was given at the FEI4 testing meeting a couple of months go describing the changes.) No documentation yet. Comparison to results obtained from version 1 are underway at Glasgow. - They have also a new wire bonding machine and a new wire bonding technician (Joe Ashby). - Wafer probing for FEI4B is being set up - this is usually done outside the UK (California?) and it would be good to have the capability here. Edinburgh (Stephan) -------------------- They are starting to work on their USBPix system, there are two postgrad students (Manuel and Francesca) who will work on it part time in addition to Stephan. However they can't get much farther without a device to read out, Cinzia has promised to find them one. Action Jo ask Cinzia what is the status of this. Liverpool ---------- - Paul is working with the USBPix system there, late last year its I/O failed, it has since been repaired at Bonn and is back in Liverpool now. Version 1.3 is working. Version 2 is installed and verified as well as it can be without a sensor - a sensor is being connected up as we speak and Paul hopes to start working with it later this day. - Gian expressed frustration (echoed by all others) at the long delays in obtaining kel connectors for the USBpix cables and cards. We ordered some about a year ago and still don't have them. We agreed to bring this issue up for discussion at the upcoming module working-group meeting, to see if some more-readily-available substitute could be found. (See addendum from John Matheson, below.) - Gian also mentioned that the stavelet group at Liverpool (Ashley Greenall et.al) has the BCC multiplexor chip working. Jo is interested to go there together with Manchester electronics engineer(s) to learn how to use it. Action Gian find out when it might be possible. Email communication from John Matheson after the meeting regarding the kel connectors: WRT KELs, they have been difficult to source indeed. We placed an order through SSC in something like May, tried again 3 months later and were told we should have them in November..... nothing. We later ordered some from a stockist in the US using a GPC card. At the moment I have 10 off 8930E-050-178MS-F 20 off 8925E-050-179-F - so if a couple of these are of use to anyone, let me know and I'll post them off. Longer term, Ilya at Liverpool identified some Samtecs which would get round these problems in future.
