While laptops provide flexibility they are difficult to maintain. Laptops are therefore provided with a minimal support policy of:

   * Re-installation for troubled configurations.
   * Minimal help for software related issues: focusing on core applications.
   * Support for hardware related issues.

*If you are using your own laptop as opposed to a group laptop and have Microsoft Windows installed you must install <noautolink>Sophos AntiVirus</noautolink>, see [[LaptopAntiVirus]].*

Most PPE laptop are boot systems with both <noautolink>WinXP</noautolink> and scientific linux installed.
Older laptops have SL4 and the latest dell D630 laptops have SL5 installed.
