---+ Disposal of IT Equipment The university has various legal obligations when disposing of IT equipment, and particular consideration must be given to the following points: * Removal of the equipment from the asset register, where applicable. * Protection of personal data and other confidential information. * Compliance with software licensing agreements in cases where the equipment may be reused. * Compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive in cases where the equipment will be disposed. Full details can be found in the university's [[http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/it/regulationscommitteesandpolicies/computerequipmentdisposalpolicy/][Computer Equipment Disposal Policy]]. If you have items of IT or other electrical equipment which are no longer required, please contact [[ITManagement#PPE_IT_Support][PPE IT support]] who can separate items which may still be useful (even if only for spare parts) and will advise on appropriate disposal of anything else. Smaller items of broken equipment may be taken directly to stores (room 117) for disposal. Spent batteries can also be disposed of in stores. Please note that electrical items, including batteries, should not be placed in bins or skips.
